Decorating for fall holidays made simple with organizing tips from House Spouse

Fall is in the air, and that means the holiday season isn’t far behind.

It’s October, and Halloween is near. Halloween stands as the great divide of autumn, marking the moment when that season draws to a close and the busy holiday season draws near.

With the help of our professional house cleaning team at House Spouse, your home will be ready and inviting.  And, we have some tips on how to organize and maintain your seasonal décor from October through the first of December.

Start with a list of the items you want to display and whether they are particular to a holiday or the season. Autumn décor, for example, can transition right from early October through Thanksgiving.  Items such as fall leaf arrangements, gourds, pumpkins and seasonal throws or pillows are appropriate throughout fall and Thanksgiving.

If you and your family like to scare up the house with Halloween decorations, those will be listed separate because the ghosts, witches, goblins, and skeletons will need to be packed away on Nov. 1, or shortly after, as many Arizonans also observe Día de Muertos.

Day of the Dead starts Oct. 31 and concludes on Nov. 2. The holiday is for remembering and saying prayers for family members who’ve died. Alters for the lost loved ones are created and families gather to celebrate and remember.

So far, you have fall décor, possibly Halloween décor, and possibly Day of the Dead items that you will want on display Add your Thanksgiving items, too, as separate group. Keep that list going, and if your memory is faltering on what you boxed up and put away last, waltz over to the closet and/or drawers where everything is stashed to jog your brain.

Once the list is complete, take a look inside and out and determine which items will need to be removed in early November, and which will remain through Thanksgiving. Note them on your list.

This Is going to make home décor much easier through the winter holidays, because right after Halloween, you’re going to know exactly what you’re taking away, what you’re leaving for Thanksgiving and what happens with the Christmas decorating.

If your fall and holiday decorations are occupying about the same space, you’ve just taken a giant step toward additional organization. And that makes it easier for our team, too, when we’re there for your house cleaning. Remember, if you need additional help with organizing, décor, or anything else for your home, the House Spouse cleaning team is here to assist.

When it’s time to take items down, consider storing the different categories in separate containers, or smaller boxes inside a big container designed as Fall Décor. Next year’s decorating will be a breeze!
